Overnight Camping on the Island

This island is the property of the State of Massachusetts. It is under the stewardship of the Town of Sturbridge and its Harbor Masters. The Harbor Masters are the Sturbridge Town Selectman. Big Alum Lake Association takes responsibility for overseeing the use of the island, and  for keeping it safe and clean for all to enjoy.

*Bookings must be approved by Big Alum Lake Association staff. You will receive a confirmation email that your reservation request has been approved.*

Reservations:

Please respect the reservation of others so that everyone can have a unique and enjoyable island experience.

Rules:

  • No more than 3 consecutive nights in a row may be booked.
  • Please limit group size to 6 people.
  • Carry out all waste when you leave including human waste. No Latrines may be dug and no toilet paper is to be left on the island.
  • Make sure your fire is out cold when you leave. Douse with water.
  • No glass containers are to be brought onto the island. Plastic or aluminum is fine.
  • No loud parties that can be heard from shore. Respect your neighbors.

Donations for Island Maintenance:

Donations to help with upkeep on the island are always welcome. To make a donation, please make a check payable to “Big Alum Lake Association”, note that it is for the island in the memo line and mail to:
